This weekend, Kelowna is part of the global March Against Monsanto in an effort to bring awareness about GMOs. Monsanto is one of the largest biotech companies in the world and are about to get bigger in their merge with Bayer AG. As the largest producer of genetically engineered seeds, and in America, the majority of corn, soybean, and cotton is genetically modified.
This Saturday, “March Against Monsanto” marches are happening across the globe. March Against Monsanto stands against the control of food supply and the destruction of ecosystems and they’d like you to come down and help save the bees, apples and salmon, and to and take our food and seed back.
Proper labelling is also a huge concern. For example, do you know that Canadians already eating genetically-modified salmon from AquaBounty is the first genetically-modified animal approved as food in Canada.
March Against Monsanto Kelowna is part of the worldwide grassroots movement for food sovereignty and joins 52 countries, and 400+ cities. Here’s a video of last year’s event – it’s got quite the dramatic rendition of Bad Moon Rising goin’ on.
