Kelowna’s homegrown three day musical festival returns this upcoming weekend with acoustic music in the day time, hip hop artists and DJs at night, and concludes with the main event on Sunday featuring nine different bands. The festival runs January 24th to the 26th, taking place across Kelowna at Dunnenzies Pizza’s Mission location Friday night, the new Rustic Reel Brewing Co. Saturday afternoon (great new venue!), and BNA Saturday night and all day Sunday.
Fireside Festival began in the living room of Aaron DeSilva’s Upper Mission home in the winter of 2014, as a chance to show off the musical talents of his friends for a night. The festival quickly outgrew the home, moving to BNA Brewing Co. in 2016, and expanding to two days of music in 2018.
“The people are amazing, the music is amazing, there’s artists, there’s entertainment, there are vendors, there are all sorts of cool stuff to do,” says Desilva. “All the venues have great vibes and it’s a really great way to start the year off by experiencing local music.” Now in its seventh year, this year’s fest will feature more hip hop acts. “I am a huge hip-hop fan myself and I know there’s a really cool emerging scene in Kelowna,” Desilva adds.
The hip hop showcase takes place at Dunnenzies Friday night. Saturday night at BNA will be headlined by Vancouver’s Little Destroyer, who played the festival in 2018, and Sunday has Snotty Nose Rez Kids, the hip-hop duo originally from Kitimaat Village on B.C.’s coast, nominated for a Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year in 2019, as the main draw.
Tickets for the three day event vary in price from $20 to $60 for the main event.
