Local brewers BNA and BC Tree Fruits garnered some ‘best in class’ accolades at the 23rd Annual Okanagan Fest of Ale this year. The festival is one of the largest and longest-running craft beer festivals in the Pacific Northwest, and this year brought in around 5,000 guests to check out over 200 craft beers and ciders.

We all know PNW craft beers are the bomb, but who exactly caught our judge’s tastebuds this year? It was a pretty wide range with the Okanagan well represented, and East Van’s newish brewery, Luppolo picked up the coveted Best in Show for its Tart Wild Ale with Plum, as well as a win for Best Sour Beer.

Our own BNA won for their popular Pamela (Best Saison), BC Tree Fruits Cider for their hoppy cider, Dad Bod (Best Cider), and Penticton’s Bad Tattoo won Best Pilsner/Lager/Kölsch for their refreshing Los Muertos Cerveza Negra.

The judges this year were made up of 9 industry experts including Joe Wiebe (Beer Writer, Craft Beer Revolution), Jan Zeschky (Beer Writer), Jason van Rassel (Original Levity & Avenue Edmonton), Wade Dhooge (Cask & Barrel), Jim Martin (Metro Liquor), Rebecca Whyman, (Beernesday.com), Monica Frost (BC Ale Trail and BC Craft Brewers Guild), Lundy Dale (Pink Pints & BC Craft Beer Month), and Tim LaHay (Craft Beer Tourist).
